My disclaimer about the capacity calculations
For my calculations, I’ve taken the 3 teams playing in Amercan football stadiums, DCU in RFK, Houston in Robertson and New England in Foxboro and assigned maximum capacities at 22,500. I took the 22,500 number from an approximate average of the soccer specific stadiums in use.
Observations
Toronto started off the week with a near full house on a Thursday evening. RSL followed that up with a terrific 19,000+ on Friday. Columbus drew 14,000+. Don’t know if Dallas had extracurriculars, but they pulled in just under 16,000! San Jose had a sellout, while Chivas USA had another so-so gate, just under 14,500. On July 4th, Colorado sold out despite nasty weather. And the Galaxy also sold out as Landon Donovan and Edson Buddle returned to action.
Rookie Watch: Ike Opara scored for San Jose. Blair Gavin scored for Chivas USA and Danny Mwanga tallied for the Union. Andy Najar netted for DC United. Tim Ream(RBNY) had a decent game.

just a bit of an fyi. your average for TFC is off by a bit. you have 20,249 but the actual average over 7 games is 20,410. according to the TFC website and official game recaps the 7 home attendances to date were: 21,978; 18,394; 20,060; 20,672; 21,583; 18,809; 21,374 for a total attendance to date of 142,870 and an average of 20,410.
Ole:
Thank you, you are correct. Found the error in my formula. Had the 20,410 in 3 other places in my spreadsheet, but the wrong number where it is picked up for the web posting. Thanks again.
Peter
pshaw. don’t mention it. plus i have to check my numbers about 4 times to make sure i don’t have typos or transposed numbers so i completely understand that sort of thing happens. that is why having a bunch of people keeping track of things to keep each other cross checked is a good thing.
Wow. I hope the spike in attendance is due to the World Cup and not just the holiday weekend. Really nice to see that; should end the season nicely.
Not mentioned is who Seattle beat to get to the final the future MLS Portland Timbers.
They drew 16k for the mid week game. (The loudest away game the Sounder’s will have for sure)
There were Sounder’s fans there, but they will draw better than average next year. I would be surprised if they are not in the top 5 in attendance next year. With Vancouver being one of the teams too.
