Observations
People in Colorado finally turned out for the Rapids, even in the cold. More than 17,700. A full house at the Home Depot Center saw Dallas dismantle the Galaxy.
The final numbers won’t hold up to last year. 3 of the 5 lowest drawing clubs were in the playoffs this year and the final location, BMO field is a relatively small venue. Speaking of BMO, in addition to no ‘glamour’ teams in the final, the weather could be dicey. Don’t be surprised if the game is listed as a sellout, but with lots of empty seats come game day. That being said, I think the Dallas/Colorado final could make for an excellent match.

MLS Cup Final

As you can see, I am listing the ‘old San Jose’ accomplishments where they belong(IMO), with the Dynamo. I know the deal was that the Quakes would retain the ‘legacy’ of the original team, but I choose reality, i.e.; the franchise that won the cups resides in Houston.

- After suffering what some are calling the biggest upset in women’s soccer history, the US Women still have a chance to qualify for the Women’s World Cup. They defeated Costa Rica and now must win a home and home vs Italy to earn a spot in the big dance.

I don’t get why you post Super Liga, I don’t even know what that is,
but not CCL ?
I think you are being way to kind to Toronto fans.
Someone correct me if I am wrong, but I think Toronto fans were “forced” to buy the MLS Cup game as part of their package, they were upset about it and now are not going to show. Thus there will be empty seats.
IF, IF there are empty seats, and I am not wrong in what I heard….then screw Toronto, MLS should never hold the MLS Cup there ever again.
I am dying to go to that game this weekend, hold it here and I guarentee I will be there.
A plus being we won’t have to worry about the bad weather, the excuse you use for them.

I just listed the domestic cups, and SuperLiga since it is an invention of SUM, in which every MLS franchise investor holds an interest.
BTW, the SuperLiga pits the 4 top finishing MLS teams not in the CCL vs 4 Mexican clubs. Really just a money maker(Mexican TV), for SUM, but I think it’s good exposure to international club competition for our middling teams. And it has the biggest cash prize that an MLS team plays for, unless they were to win CCL and go to the FIFA Club World Cup.
As for the CCL, in the two MLS victories, DCU in ’98 and LA in ’00, both teams went directly to the quarterfinals, unlike the current(better) tourney format.
RE: Toronto and the Cup, I believe you are correct about the TFC ticket package and the no-show ‘protest’. But I wasn’t saying that the weather would keep the crowd down, and certainly if TFC were in the match, the house would be packed. Torontonians are used to cold weather.
However, the expense for Colorado and Dallas fans is an issue, and the lack of the ‘marquee’ teams will keep the number of neutrals down.
I keep bouncing back and forth between a rotating or permanent neutral site for the Cup final. Home field for the higher seed just doesn’t allow enough time to market and sell tickets.
I was fortunate to attend the ’08 final at the HDC and would attend again when if it’s held there in the future. A great experience, even as a neutral.

Ditto for Seattle last year. The chance to see a final in a major sport in the US is once in a lifetime.
I think that Home field would allow enough time to market. People know when a team is good, they get press.
My vote is a permenant site- Las Vegas!
This Rapids fan is not going to Toronto, too expensive.
It would be boring, but if they held the final at the Home Depot Center ‘twould be a sellout every year.
