MLSTalk Podcast: Hunting In KC (Lamar-Style)
In this episode of the MajorLeagueSoccerTalk podcast, Earl Reed and Daniel Feuerstein begin by analyzing the 2012 Lamar Hunt US Open Cup, where Sporting Kansas City earned the honors and hardware to put in the cabinet. They then take a look at two major fixtures in the Western Conference, as San Jose gave Seattle their second tough defeat of the week while Real Salt Lake took it on the chin from Vancouver. After discussing New York’s home victory over the Dynamo, they look at the roster for the upcoming USMNT friendly in Mexico.
After a few other matches of note, the guys recap the finals of the Olympic soccer competition, and close out with more MLS action to cap it all off.

Nice podcast. With regard to the the open cup, Gspurning was
definitely off the line but the issue is really that Goalies
generally come off their line a little early AND Nielsen had come
off the line in exactly the same way on the previous shot. With
regard to Ianni’s hand ball, lets remember that the rule is that
you have cannot INTENTIONALLY touch the ball. In professional
soccer this generally translates as something like its not a
penalty if you could not have reasonably avoided touching the ball.
When you look at the replay with this in mind you have to wonder
about the call. Especially because Salazar was right behind Ianni
and had a dismally poor view. That being said I do think KC did a
great job on defense. They were able to collapse down with multiple
defenders on Montero and, at the same time stay glued to Rosales
all but eliminating his crosses. So in the end I dont think I can
complain about the result, but I can complain about Salazar.
The rematch in MLS Cup is going to be EPIC. Unfortunately the
Sounders will have to go on the road again. 67,000k in the best
stadium in MLS would be more fitting.
The fact that you guys talked more about Salazar’s decisions than
the run of play shows that the game was not “fantastic (for US
Soccer)” – as one of you said.
